Why I Keep My English Coaching Personal
I work with a small number of clients so I can give each person careful, individual attention. Each speaks English at an intermediate or advanced level, and each brings a different life, personality, and reason for wanting to communicate more confidently.
We read and discuss current pieces from The New Yorker, the news, well-known literature, and even poetry. These readings give us something interesting to talk about while developing a more sophisticated use of English: a larger vocabulary, a deeper understanding of idioms and metaphors, and a feeling for how language carries meaning beyond its literal words.
We also work through the difficulty of communicating with people. That can be challenging in any language. Some people have little patience with someone who is not a native speaker. I help clients navigate these encounters—asking for clarification, handling interruptions, and finding ways to be heard without losing confidence.
Pronunciation, rhythm, and expression are part of this work, too. After every session, I provide individual feedback so clients have something concrete to carry into their practice and conversations.
I bring more than twenty years of teaching experience and a long record of helping people make progress. What I offer is my time, my attention, and a thoughtful partnership in the work of making yourself understood.
